National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Atty. Melvin Matibag hit back at Vice President Sara Duterte after she called him a “nobody,” saying he would indeed be one if his status were measured by mansions, businesses, and alleged large payments from Chinese state-owned companies.
“Totoo naman yun. Kung mansyon, mga negosyo... tsaka kung may natatanggap na malaking pera sa mga Chinese government, state-owned companies, eh nobody talaga,” Matibag said in an ambush interview.
Matibag stressed that the NBI would continue its investigation into the Vice President’s allegedly misdeclared properties, adding that an investigation must precede the filing of a case in court.
The exchange came after Duterte said she was not interested in Matibag when asked about his challenge for her to file a case if she believed the bureau was biased. She also called for the allegations against her to be addressed through proper legal processes.
The NBI has submitted a referral to the Office of the Ombudsman concerning alleged discrepancies and misdeclarations in Duterte’s Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALN).
