A Catholic mass was held Thursday in solidarity with the House of Representatives prosecutors preparing for the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte, underscoring calls for truth, justice and accountability.

The mass, officiated by Bishop Elias Ayuban, took place at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Cubao, Quezon City, and was attended by members of the House prosecution panel and private prosecutors.

Among those present were Representatives Gerville Luistro, Leila de Lima and Ysabel Zamora, who joined fellow lawmakers and supporters in prayer ahead of the anticipated proceedings.

Organizers said the gathering aimed to offer spiritual support for the prosecution team as they take on the high-profile case, which has drawn national attention and varying public opinion.

Luistro acknowledged the challenges faced by the prosecutors, saying the impeachment process has placed them at the center of intense scrutiny.

“Hindi po madali na maging sentro ng ibat-ibang opinion kaugnay ng impeachment process na ito.”

“Nevertheless, we believe that there is honor to be at the forefront of this accountability mechanism.”

She added that the prosecution team’s stance is rooted in their belief that Filipinos deserve better leadership and a stronger nation.

“Let us pray for the entire Philippine nation,” she said, further noting that their conviction comes from the belief that Filipinos deserve better leaders and a better future.

Luistro also called on the public to join in prayer for the outcome of the impeachment trial, expressing hope for the conviction of the respondent.

The impeachment case against Duterte is expected to proceed on July 6, with the House prosecution panel preparing to present its case before the Senate acting as an impeachment court.
