The parents of Mary Jane Veloso have filed a motion before the Supreme Court (SC), urging the immediate resolution of a pending Petition for the Writ of Habeas Corpus seeking her release from detention.

In a motion filed on Friday, May 8, Celia and Cesar Veloso appealed to the High Court to act on their petition, which has remained unresolved for nearly six months since it was filed on November 14, 2025.

The petition, docketed as G.R. No. E-03341 (UDK) challenges the legality of Veloso’s continued detention at the Correctional Institute for Women in Mandaluyong City.

The Veloso family, along with supporters, maintained that there is no sufficient legal basis for her continued incarceration.

They reiterated their call for her release while urging the Supreme Court to finally resolve the pending petition.

The motion also included a handwritten letter from Mary Jane Veloso addressed to Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo, appealing for action on her case.

Two days before Mother’s Day, Celia Veloso also made an emotional appeal to President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., calling for the granting of "executive clemency." She reiterated her claim that her daughter is a victim of human trafficking and is innocent of the charges against her.

Mary Jane is set to testify at a court in Mandaluyong City in connection with the cases she filed against her former recruiters, Ma. Cristina Sergio and Julius Lacanilao.

The cases lodged by Veloso against the recruiters include qualified human trafficking, estafa, and illegal recruitment.

According to her legal counsel, National Union of People’s Lawyers (NUPL) president Edre Olalia, no trial date has yet been set.

The upcoming proceedings are expected to mark the first time Veloso will testify in a Philippine court since her return to the country in 2024.
