The House prosecution team confirmed that Mary Grace Piattos, among the supposed recipients of Vice President Sara Duterte’s confidential funds, has been included in their list of witnesses.
In a press briefing on Thursday, Prosecution panel member and Bicol Saro Party-list Rep. Terry Ridon told reporters that Piattos’ existence or non-existence would prove a strong indicator of Duterte’s innocence or guilt with respect to her alleged misuse of office funds.
“Mahalaga po ‘yung Mary Grace Piattos kasi nasa sentro siya e noong pong kontrobersiya, noong pong paggamit ng confidential funds. ‘Yung existence or non-existence ni Mary Grace Piattos ‘yun pong smoking gun kung talaga nga bang tama o mali ‘yun pong paggamit ng confidential funds,” the lawmaker said.
In response to whether Piattos is a real person, Ridon said that this remains to be seen.
The appearance of other reported confidential fund recipients, including Carlos Miguel Oishi, Chippy McDonald, and Kokoy Villamin, has yet to be confirmed. Ridon said it was Manila Rep. Joel Chua who had listed Piattos as a witness.
Mary Grace Piattos, Carlos Miguel Oishi, among others, are names that have appeared in Duterte’s confidential fund receipts. Moreover, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) previously confirmed that the former has no birth, marriage, or death records.
Likewise, Lanao Del Sur 1st District Rep. Zia Alonto Adiong had previously called the name Kokoy Villamin into question, noting that two individuals had apparently signed Department of Education (DepEd) and Office of the Vice President (OVP) receipts at the same time.
Mary Grace is a popular café chain, and Piattos is a local chips brand.
