The water level of the Marikina River has risen to the second alarm level due to the consistent rains brought on by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine.
According to the Marikina Public Information Office, the water level was recorded at 16 meters this morning at 4 a.m., a decrease from 16.8 meters observed on Thursday evening.
Rainfall measurements show that areas such as Mt. Oro and Nangka have recorded 1 mm of rain, contributing to the rising water levels. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, as continued rainfall may lead to further increases.
The "second alarm" for the Marikina River indicates a specific water level that signals potential flooding risks.
According to DOST-PAGASA, Kristine is forecast to move west northwestward to westward over the next 48 hours and exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) region this afternoon.
In the extended outlook, there is a developing forecast situation wherein KRISTINE will be looping over the West Philippine Sea on Sunday and Monday and move generally eastward towards the general direction of the PAR region.
"This scenario heavily depends on the behavior of the tropical cyclone east of the PAR region," the weather bureau stated.
