The Marikina River was placed under the first alarm after its water level reached 15.28 meters at 1:05 p.m. Saturday, August 29, amid continuous rains brought by the southwest monsoon, or “habagat.”

According to the Marikina City Public Information Office, the river reached the 15-meter mark at 12:17 p.m.

It inched up to 15.7 meters as of 1:27 p.m.

Authorities said the water level continues to rise due to the persistent rainfall, prompting residents in low-lying areas to remain alert and follow advisories from local authorities.

With the first alarm raised, residents are advised to prepare for possible evacuation.

A second alarm will be raised if the water level reaches 16 meters, at which point voluntary evacuation will be implemented.
