The Marikina River remains under second alarm Sunday morning, August 30, after its water level dropped to 16 meters as of 9 a.m.

According to the latest update from the Marikina City Public Information Office, the river’s water level has continued to decline after reaching 18.4 meters at 11:35 p.m. Saturday, prompting the city to raise the third alarm.

Under Marikina City’s alert system, the second alarm is raised when the water level reaches 16 meters, prompting preemptive evacuation of affected residents.

The third alarm is raised at 18 meters and signals mandatory evacuation.

Authorities continue to monitor the Marikina River amid rains brought by the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat.
