The number of cyclists recorded in Marikina City has increased by 157% this year, according to the Marikina City Bikeways Office.
The city recorded 29,245 cyclists, up from 11,363 in 2025, based on its latest bike count.
The local government said the increase reflects the growing use of bicycles in the city and vowed to further strengthen programs and facilities aimed at making cycling safer and more organized.
Among the measures being pursued by the city administration of Mayor Maan Teodoro are regular maintenance of bike lanes, installation of bike racks in schools, and the development of additional end-of-trip facilities for cyclists.
Teodoro said the latest figures indicate that the city's programs promoting safer and more organized cycling are gaining traction.
Marikina has long maintained dedicated bicycle infrastructure. Its local ordinance provides for designated bicycle lanes and bike-friendly programs and facilities across the city.
The city government also maintains a Bikeways Office tasked with handling concerns related to cycling infrastructure and programs.
Recent reports said the city is also developing the Marikina Active Transport Park, which is intended to provide facilities for cyclists and other non-motorized transport users.
