After receiving backlash from the public, actress and TV host Mariel Rodriguez-Padilla apologized over her viral "Vitamin C drip" session in the office of her husband, Senator Robin Padilla.
In an Instagram post on Monday, Mariel clarified that the "gluta drip" was actually a Vitamin C drip, adding that her only intention was to inspire the public in taking care of their health.
"To clarify, I received a vitamin C drip, not glutathione, under the medical supervision of a professional nurse. Having mentioned this, my intent was just to inspire others that even amidst various activities or whatever they are, they can still prioritize their health by taking vitamins," she stressed.
Mariel then expressed her apology for the act.
"It was never my intention to malign or undermine the integrity and dignity of the Senate. I want to extend my sincerest apologies to all concerned, including the members and staff of the Senate and the public," she continued.
The senator's wife said she "upholds the Senate's dignity and integrity."
On Friday, Senator Nancy Binay expressed her concern over the incident.
"I'm not sure if the ethics committee can extend its jurisdiction dito sa nangyaring insidente since hindi naman member ng Senado si Ms. Mariel," the senator said.
She added that the Department of Health (DOH) declared gluta-drip and similar treatments unsafe and banned by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), noting that this was administered outside a clinic or medical facility.
