President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is set to attend the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, India, on Sept. 12-13, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Wednesday.

Marcos is also scheduled to meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral ties, particularly in defense and security, trade and investment, science and technology, and climate change.

DFA spokesperson Analyn Ratonel said the visit is aimed at ensuring that the Philippines' partnerships remain open, resilient and capable of contributing to the country's economic growth and development.

“Through this visit, the president seeks to ensure that our modern partnerships remain open, resilient, and capable of delivering prosperity to our people,” Ratonel said.

She added that Marcos will have an opportunity to present the Philippines' key priorities to BRICS members.

As ASEAN chair, the Philippines' priorities will focus on peace and security, people empowerment and prosperity, Ratonel said.

The BRICS summit will bring together leaders of member countries and invited partners to discuss issues involving global governance, economic cooperation and development.
