Malacañang on Monday denied rumors that Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla would be removed from his post, saying President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. continues to trust the DILG chief despite recent controversies involving the agency.

Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary Claire Castro said there have been no discussions within the Palace regarding a possible change in leadership at the DILG.

“Hindi ito napag-uusapan sa ngayon... Wala naman akong nakita na natanggal ang tiwala ng pangulo kay Sec. Jonvic Remulla sa ngayon,” Castro said during a press briefing.

Castro made the statement after questions were raised about issues surrounding the DILG, including the failure to implement the International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrant against Senator Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa and the controversy involving the reported arrest of former Ako Bicol Partylist representative Zaldy Co in Prague.

Rumors of Remulla’s alleged removal spread on social media following several controversies tied to the DILG chief’s report to Marcos regarding Co’s supposed arrest abroad. The issues included reports about Co’s alleged golden visa and Portuguese passport, inconsistencies in the timeline of the reported arrest, and claims about the possible release of an Interpol arrest warrant.

The Palace official also denied reports that former Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos or former Senator Antonio “Sonny” Trillanes IV were being considered as possible replacements for Remulla.

“Wala pa pong ganoong ibinibigay sa ating mga impormasyon,” Castro said.
