President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. said Wednesday that he has yet to receive the proposed measure seeking to postpone the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) scheduled for November.
Asked in an ambush interview at the Manila Hotel on Wednesday if he had already decided on the postponement of the BSKE, Marcos briefly replied, “Wala pa sa akin.”
As of Sept. 23, Marcos said the measure had not yet reached his office.
Marcos made the remark as he left the Philippine Maritime Convention 2026 (PhilMarCon 2026), where he delivered the keynote address.
The President’s statement came amid reports that he was poised to sign into law a measure extending the terms of incumbent barangay and SK officials from four years to five years.
Earlier, Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro said the President would still study the matter amid the possibility of postponing the BSKE elections.
The proposed measure seeks to amend Republic Act No. 12232, which Marcos signed in August 2025. The law set the terms of barangay and SK officials at four years and scheduled the next BSKE for November 2, 2026.
