President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has announced a PHP225 million aid package for Cebu province following the devastating September 30 earthquake that claimed at least 72 lives.

Speaking during a briefing, the President said the Office of the President will donate PHP50 million to Cebu province. Of this, PHP20 million each will go to the quake-struck cities of Bogo, Sogod, and San Remigio, while PHP10 million each will be provided to the municipalities of Bantayan, Daanbantayan, Madridejos, Medellin, and two other towns.

Marcos also directed the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) to immediately release an additional PHP225 million in financial assistance to speed up recovery efforts.

In addition, the President assured that all Department of Health (DOH)-run hospitals in Cebu will receive PHP20 million each, while provincial hospitals will be allocated PHP5 million each to bolster medical services for quake victims.

According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), nearly 300 people were injured in the disaster, while more than 47,000 families—or roughly 170,000 individuals—have been affected. At least 20,000 residents remain displaced from their homes.

The earthquake, which struck offshore near Bogo City, was recorded as the strongest to hit northern Cebu to date.

It generated Intensity VII shaking across Bogo City, Daanbantayan, Medellin, San Remigio, and Tabuelan, causing widespread destruction to homes, infrastructure, and livelihoods.
