President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has directed the immediate completion of a drainage improvement project along Roxas Boulevard ahead of the rainy season in a bid to prevent prolonged flooding in the area, officials said.
According to a report by RH Boy Gonzales, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon said the expansion of the drainage system is targeted for completion within May, in line with the president’s directive to accelerate flood mitigation efforts across Metro Manila.
Dizon said construction will continue on a 24/7 basis along key sections of Bonifacio Drive and Roxas Boulevard to ensure the project is finished on schedule.
The project involves the installation of larger and more durable high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipes designed to improve water flow and reduce surface water accumulation that contributes to flooding.
Officials said the drainage upgrade will also connect to the Luneta Pumping Station, which is expected to enhance the efficiency of floodwater discharge in the area and help reduce flood risks in the city during heavy rains.
