President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has allowed the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) to release the tax records of Vice President Sara Duterte and her husband, Atty. Manases “Mans” Carpio, to the Senate Impeachment Court, House prosecutor and Bicol Saro Party-list Rep. Terry Ridon said Thursday.
“Lumiliit na ang mundo ng atin pong pangalawang pangulo. ‘Yun pong mga bank records, bank documents ay isa-isang isinusumite ngayong araw na ito sa Senado para ho sa Senate impeachment court,” Ridon said in a press briefing.
“‘Yung pong BIR documents ng mag-asawang Duterte-Carpio at kanila pong mga pamilya ay isinumite na rin sa Senate impeachment court. Nagbigay ang Pangulo ng Pilipinas ng kanyang approval para ilabas po itong mga dokumentong ito,” he added.
Ridon said the bank and tax documents involve a total of ₱6.7 billion in transactions, including ₱4.4 billion in inflows.
The House prosecutor said the documents could further strengthen the allegations against Duterte in Article I of the impeachment complaint, which centers on the alleged misuse of confidential funds.
Ridon described the submission of the financial records as further narrowing the options for the Vice President as the impeachment trial proceeds.
Meanwhile, BIR representatives delivered Duterte’s tax documents, enclosed in a red box, to the Office of Senate Secretary Rey Bantug, the clerk of the Impeachment Court, on Thursday morning, in compliance with the court’s subpoena and the deadline for submission.
