President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will undertake a three-day working visit to Singapore from July 14 to 16, Malacañang announced on Monday.
Palace Press Officer and Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary Claire Castro said that during the visit, Marcos is expected to hold a meeting with Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong to discuss ways to further strengthen bilateral cooperation between the Philippines and Singapore.
Castro said the President’s courtesy call with Wong will focus on expanding cooperation in trade and investment, environment and health, as well as regional and global development.
“Bahagi ito sa pagsulong ng pamahalaan sa mas matatag na bilateral relations ng Pilipinas at Singapore na magsisilbing susunod na chair ng Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) sa susunod na taon,” Castro said.
The diplomatic engagement will also reaffirm the commitment of both countries to ASEAN centrality and regional stability.
Aside from his meetings with Singaporean officials, Marcos will participate in a private roundtable discussion organized by the Milken Institute with business leaders. The discussion comes after the Philippines was recently recognized as an upper-middle-income country.
The working visit is part of the administration’s push to deepen economic and strategic ties with Singapore ahead of the city-state’s assumption of the ASEAN chairmanship from the Philippines next year.
