President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. presided over a situation briefing with key Cabinet members at Malacañang on Monday, Aug. 10, to discuss the effects of the southwest monsoon, or habagat, which has brought heavy rains and flooding to several parts of the country, particularly in Luzon.
Marcos is expected to receive updates on the condition of flood-affected areas, as well as residents who are currently staying in evacuation centers, according to a report by RH Leth Narciso on DZRH's Damdaming Bayan.
Officials are also expected to report on the government’s ongoing response efforts and measures being implemented to assist families affected by the heavy rains and flooding.
The President is also expected to issue directives to concerned agencies to ensure the safety and immediate assistance of affected communities amid the continuing effects of the Habagat.
Earlier, Marcos ordered concerned agencies to remain on alert and ensure the safety of communities, particularly in areas that could be affected by the release of water from several dams due to rising water levels.
Malacañang also declared a work-from-home arrangement for government employees in several areas in Luzon on Monday amid the expected heavy rainfall brought by the southwest monsoon.
