President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. hit back at Vice President Sara Duterte’s allegation that his administration is seeking to bring her down and prevent the 2028 presidential elections.
“Nonsense, fake news, may hilig magsinungaling, mga buwaon [or liar],” Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro quoted Marcos as saying during a Palace briefing.
Castro said Marcos wanted to respond to Duterte’s accusations, which he considered “baseless.“
“Lahat naman po kasi ng pag-aakusa ng Bise Presidente sa Pangulo alam naman natin kung saan ito patungo. Alam naman natin lahat halos ito ay walang basehan. Kaya mismo ang Pangulo, sinasabing nonsense ang kanyang sinasabi,” Castro said.
Duterte on Saturday accused the Marcos administration of becoming “desperate” to bring her down, push for Charter change, prevent the 2028 elections, and remain in power.
“The desperation of the administration to bring me down, push for Charter Change, prevent the 2028 elections, and cling to power is becoming increasingly diabolical,” Duterte said.
When asked what prompted Marcos to respond to Duterte’s recent allegations, despite usually not addressing her accusations, Castro said the President emphasized his statement because of the Vice President’s repeated vilification and relentless accusations against him and his administration.
“Paulit-ulit, hindi tumitigil sa paninira kay Pangulo, sa paninira sa administrasyong ito na ang tanging ginagawa lamang ay magtrabaho para sa Pilipinas,” Castro said.
She added that the administration could not simply ignore Duterte’s repeated falsehoods.
“Hindi po pwedeng balewalain ang lahat ng kasinungalingang namumutawi sa isang obstructionist at destabilizer,” Castro said.
Earlier Monday, Marcos laughed off Duterte’s allegation during an event in Pasay City that his administration was trying to prevent the 2028 presidential elections.
