President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has not yet issued any termination order for the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI), according to an official of the commission.
In RH Jecelle Ricafort's report on Operation Tulong, an ICI official told DZRH News that the commission has not received any formal notice of termination from the President, contrary to earlier statements by Senator Imee Marcos.
On February 1, Senator Marcos said the ICI would already be dissolved, citing information she had received.
However, the ICI official clarified that even if the ICI is eventually dissolved, the Technical Working Group (TWG) tasked with asset recovery will continue its work under another government agency that will be designated to oversee flood control projects and other related initiatives.
The official explained that the TWG’s functions are not limited to asset recovery alone, noting that it can still carry out the broader mandate of the ICI.
These include the filing of cases against persons of interest involved in alleged anomalies, as well as recommending policy reforms or reviews of existing laws to prevent the recurrence of similar corruption cases.
According to the official, these measures may be considered should the mandate of the ICI be formally terminated.
The TWG is composed of representatives from various government agencies and is headed by Atty. Aboy Paraiso of the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC).
