President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday proclaimed May 12, the date of the 2025 National and Local Elections, as a special non-working holiday throughout the country.
Proclamation No. 878, signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, noted that the midterm polls are scheduled to take place on May 12.
"There is a need to declare Monday, 12 May 2025, as a special (non-working) holiday to enable the people to properly exercise their right to vote," the proclamation read.
During a press briefing earlier today, Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro confirmed the issuance of the proclamation and advised the public to wait for the official release.
The declaration came after the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) urged the government to make May 12 a holiday.
