President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. reminded the public to prioritize disaster preparedness following a series of earthquakes that have recently affected different parts of the country, including Cebu, Baguio, Surigao, Davao, Zambales, and Metro Manila.
In a video message posted on Facebook, the President highlighted the country’s vulnerability to natural disasters due to its location within the Pacific Ring of Fire.
He emphasized that earthquakes and volcanic eruptions are unavoidable geological events, making disaster preparedness and response crucial for every household.
The post outlined several key steps for earthquake readiness. Families were encouraged to establish an emergency plan to ensure that all members—including household staff—know where to go, where to meet, and what actions to take during an earthquake.
Citizens were also urged to prepare an emergency “go bag” containing essential items such as food, water, first aid supplies, medicines, flashlights, hygiene kits, whistles, lighters, emergency cash, and important documents.
Several local governments, including those in Pasig and Manila, have started distributing go bags to residents as part of their local disaster readiness initiatives.
The President further underscored the importance of obtaining information only from verified government sources and official channels, especially during emergencies, to avoid misinformation.
A list of national emergency hotlines was also shared to guide the public:
