President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has called both chambers of Congress to convene in a special session on June 17 to fast-track priority measures amid energy challenges and calamities, Malacañang announced on Monday, June 15.

Under Proclamation No. 1318, the President directed lawmakers to take up a series of priority measures that have already reached advanced stages of deliberation.

The following priority legislative measures are:

  • National Center for Geriatric Health;
  • Amendments to the Government Assistance to Students and Teachers in Private Education (GASTPE) Act;
  • Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS) Act;
  • Amendments to the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act (UAQTEA);
  • Last Mile and Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged and Conflict-Affected Areas (GIDA) Schools Act;
  • Amendments to the Masustansyang Pagkain Para sa Batang Pilipino Act;
  • Anti-Political Dynasty Law;
  • Presidential Merit Scholarship Program; and
  • Such other measures aimed towards strengthening social protection and uplifting the lives of the Filipino people.

The special session will also enable the Commission on Appointments to act on pending nominations in the executive, military, and foreign service, with the goal of ensuring continuity in government operations.
