President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has appointed lawyer Bret Monsanto as the new commissioner of the Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor (PCUP).
Monsanto will fill the post left vacant by Michelle Anne Gonzales, who was earlier named chairperson of the commission.
According to the appointment papers signed by the President, Monsanto is authorized to assume his new role after taking his oath of office and submitting copies to the Office of the President and the Civil Service Commission.
Before his appointment, Monsanto served as chief of staff of former Cebu governor and now House Deputy Speaker Gwen Garcia. He also worked as the chief of staff of Cebu Rep. Sun Shimura.
The PCUP helps formulate policies and implement programs aimed at improving the quality of life of Filipinos.
The agency also serves as the primary government agency that represents the interests of the urban poor, assisting in the promotion of their rights and providing access to development programs and social services.
