President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. reaffirmed his administration’s push to explore nuclear energy as a potential long-term power source for the Philippines during his visit to the Singapore Nuclear Research and Safety Institute (SNRSI) on October 10.
At the National University of Singapore, Marcos explored opportunities for cooperation in nuclear science, research, and safety as the Philippines studies the potential use of nuclear power in its energy mix.
“As our economy grows, so does our need for reliable, affordable and cleaner energy,” Marcos said.
The Philippines and Singapore also discussed knowledge-sharing on nuclear safety, regulatory frameworks, and emergency preparedness in preparation for the possible use of nuclear energy in their respective power supplies.
“Our goal is to secure an energy future where Filipino families and businesses have access to sufficient, affordable and dependable electricity, with safety remaining our highest priority,” Marcos added.
The visit forms part of the administration’s efforts to explore alternative energy sources to meet the country’s growing electricity demand while prioritizing safety.
