President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA) will be a “simple but dignified” event, Malacañang said on Monday, July 20.

Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro said the administration is keeping this year’s SONA program modest, with no celebrity director or A-list performers lined up.

“Simple lang po at walang celebrity directors or mga big A-listers na magpe-perform. Simple lang pero dignified,” Castro said during a press briefing.

Castro said a performer has already been selected to sing the national anthem during the event, but she declined to reveal the person’s identity, saying she would first seek approval before making the announcement.

“Kung may napupusuan siya na aawit ng national anthem, meron na po at alam ko na rin po. Pero hindi ko alam, magpapaalam muna ako kung dapat ko siyang sabihin. Baka sabihin huwag muna at kailangan na may surprise,” Castro said.

Last year, singer Sofronio Vasquez, the champion of The Voice USA Season 26, performed the Philippine national anthem during Marcos’ fourth SONA.
