Sen. Rodante Marcoleta on Monday moved to place Sen. Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa under Senate protective custody, following a tense confrontation inside the chamber involving National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) personnel and individuals linked in reports to former Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV.

“In the meantime, I’d like to move, Mr. President, that in the light of the recent adoption of Senate Resolution No. 44, I move that Senator Bato be placed under the Senate protective custody, until he is able to get all and exhaust all legal remedies to protect himself, and until this institution is also able to do just the same,” Marcoleta said on the floor.

The motion came after senators were shown CCTV footage allegedly capturing a brief chase and commotion between Dela Rosa’s group and NBI personnel inside the Senate premises. The footage was presented amid heightened tension in the plenary.

The incident stemmed from an alleged International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrant reportedly being enforced by NBI personnel who were present inside the Senate.

The NBI has not issued a full public account of the reported operation as of press time.

The confrontation sparked heated exchanges among senators and triggered an inquiry into the presence of law enforcement personnel inside the chamber and the circumstances surrounding the alleged attempt to serve or enforce the reported warrant.

Senate proceedings were briefly marked by visible tension as lawmakers debated the implications of the incident and the security protocols within the institution.
