Sen. Rodante Marcoleta was brought to the Sandiganbayan on Wednesday morning to face proceedings in his plunder case, more than a week after his arrest, authorities said.

According to a report by RH Edniel Parrosa, the police said the 72-year-old senator was transported under guard by the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) after being declared medically fit to attend court.

An independent medical assessment conducted by the University of the Philippines–Philippine General Hospital (UP-PGH) cleared Marcoleta for transfer, following several days of confinement at the PNP General Hospital in Camp Crame.

As of 8:30 a.m., Marcoleta arrived at the anti-graft court in a wheelchair, escorted by CIDG personnel for the scheduled hearing.

Authorities are set to submit third-party medical findings from the UP-PGH examination to the Sandiganbayan justices, as reported by RH Val Gonzales.

The court is expected to use the results to determine whether Marcoleta will be transferred to the New Quezon City Jail in Payatas or remain under hospital arrest at the PNP General Hospital.

Information from court sources indicated that the arraignment of the senator may also take place within the day.
