Ombudsman Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla said Friday that multiple cases related to flood control and infrastructure projects are expected to be filed in the coming weeks, as authorities continue to build evidence and track financial transactions tied to alleged irregularities.
Speaking at a press conference on May 15, Remulla said several cases are nearing completion and could be filed within the month, with more expected in June and early July.
“Many things are happening, many are maturing. You will find out in due time,” Remulla said.
“Within the month marami kaming ifa-file, next month maraming ifa-file. Merong tingin namin mahihinog pa na early July, ifa-file din namin pero tuloy-tuloy yan, hindi tumitigil ang trabaho natin dito.”
Remulla said investigators are coordinating with the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) to trace the flow of funds linked to flood control projects.
“We’re trying to follow the money. That remains the focus,” he said, adding that no new requests for precautionary hold departure orders (PHDO) have been made so far, although several individuals are under close monitoring.
He declined to identify those under investigation, citing the scale of resources involved.
“What we are up against is big money, people who can afford all the lawyers and even private investigators,” Remulla said. “We have to play by our own rules for us to be effective.”
Remulla confirmed that subpoenas have been issued as part of the ongoing investigation, but said details would remain confidential.
He also said findings from the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, including recommendations submitted by Sen. Panfilo "Ping" Lacson, would be reviewed and validated but not automatically adopted.
“It’s a guide for us to use, not necessarily to adopt,” he said. “We have to find out through our own sources and follow the evidence.”
Remulla described the probe as “a very active case,” underscoring the government’s continued push to hold accountable those involved in the alleged misuse of public funds tied to flood control projects.
