House private prosecutor Atty. Lorna Kapunan proposed using the defense panel’s documentary evidence to expedite the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte, saying it would help restore trust between both parties and avoid unnecessary comparisons of documents.
During Wednesday’s proceedings, Kapunan told the Senate impeachment court that the prosecution was willing to use the defense’s copies of the documents, expressing confidence that both sides possessed identical records.
"We will use their documents because we are certain that their documents are the same as our documents. Let’s use the defense’s documents, Your Honor," Kapunan said.
She explained that doing so would simplify the presentation of evidence and help speed up the proceedings by eliminating the need to compare each document individually.
In a lighter moment during the hearing, Kapunan joked that she wanted to finish the proceedings sooner because she had plans to watch the film The Odyssey.
"Huwag na tayong mag-compare-compare. Thursday, Friday manonood pa ako ng 'Odyssey'," she said, drawing laughter inside the Senate impeachment court.
The remark briefly lightened the atmosphere as the impeachment court continued hearing Article I of the Articles of Impeachment, which concerns the alleged misuse and misappropriation of confidential funds by Vice President Duterte.
