Nearly 6,815 people have already visited Manila South Cemetery as early Undas 2025 observances begin, RH Jecelle Ricafort reports.
According to the Manila Police District, around 6,590 visitors remain inside the 25-hectare cemetery. Since October 31, authorities have confiscated 615 prohibited items from visitors, mostly lighters and cigarettes, while four bladed weapons were also seized. Confiscated vapes and packaged cigarettes may be returned to visitors upon exiting the cemetery.
The cemetery experienced warm weather throughout the morning, with a brief drizzle earlier. To help visitors, management is distributing umbrellas across the grounds.
Cemetery Director John Mark Mendez noted that the use of the “tomb finder” tool has made it easier for visitors to locate the graves of their loved ones, ensuring smoother visits.
With over 1,000 police officers deployed, authorities confirmed that no untoward incidents have been reported so far.
Cemetery management expects the number of visitors to reach up to one million during Undas 2025.
