Manila City Mayor Francisco "Isko" Moreno Domagoso has ordered the release of ₱18 million in allowances for around 3,000 retired public school teachers in the city, covering their Old Age Sustenance Allowance (OASA) for the entire year of 2025.

The payout, scheduled from February 16 to 20, implements Manila Ordinance No. 7977, which grants ₱500 per month or ₱6,000 annually to qualified retired teachers aged 70 and above. Although the initial request was for only six months’ worth of allowances amounting to ₱9 million, Domagoso approved the full-year release.

The mayor said he signed the disbursement on February 13 and directed the City Treasurer’s Office to expedite processing. He described the move as a gesture of appreciation and gratitude to educators who dedicated their careers to Manila’s public schools.

Domagoso also cited the city’s improving fiscal position, which has enabled the local government to settle prior obligations, including those incurred before his current term. Speaking before members of the Manila Retired Teachers Association during a flag-raising ceremony at City Hall, he credited public school teachers for shaping generations of professionals, including doctors, engineers, lawyers, and IT specialists.

A self-described product of Manila’s public education system, the mayor emphasized that honoring retired teachers reflects the city’s continuing commitment to recognizing their lifelong service and contribution to the development of Manileños.
