Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso nominated the late DZRH reporter Boy Gonzales for a posthumous award in the upcoming Araw ng Maynila on June 24.

In a forum with Manila City Hall Press Club, Mayor Domagoso announced that he himself had handpicked Gonzales for the prestigious award, accorded only to Manileños who have passed but left a valuable contribution to the city and country.

The award-giving body held a meeting to finalize the individuals to be nominated. The mayor said he believed Gonzales was deserving of the said award.

The posthumous award is given out annually on June 24 as part of the Manila Founding Anniversary celebrations.

Veteran broadcast journalist and long-time DZRH reporter Misael “Boy” Gonzales was laid to rest at the Manila North Cemetery on Sunday, May 17. He passed away at the age of 66 on May 11, due to a stroke.

The Mayor previously extended his condolences to Gonzales’ family, friends, and colleagues, calling him a friend and beloved by the city.

“Mayroon akong isang kaibigan, nalulungkot ako at nakikiramay ako sa kaniyang pamilya. Kaninang umaga ay sumakabilang buhay na. Iyon ay napakamalapit sa Maynila, mahal na mahal nun ang Maynila,” Domagoso said.
