Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso has signed an executive order seeking to form a safety task force to avoid armed violence and similar threats in schools and public spaces.

Under Executive Order No. 29, Series of 2026, the Manila School and Community Safety Task Force aims to bolster security within Manila’s schools and shared spaces.

The move follows the brutal school shooting that took place on June 22 at San Jose National High School in Tacloban City, resulting in the deaths of three individuals and injuries to 20 more.

“Our policy is simple: Remove illegal guns. Act on every warning sign. Prepare every school. Manila will not wait for a tragedy before taking action,” Mayor Domagoso said in his State of the City Address on Wednesday, June 24.

The Manila Police District (MPD) and Schools Division Office of Manila (SDO-Manila) are directed, in compliance with the order, to intensify their campaign against illegal firearms, form threat assessment teams, and conduct a city-wide School Safety Audit within 90 days.

On Monday, two minors were involved in a shooting incident in Tacloban High School. They obtained their firearms—a 9mm glock and a caliber .38 revolver—from a police officer and a security agency, respectively.
