The Manila Police District (MPD) together with the Manila city government has implemented a temporary “zero vendor policy” in areas surrounding Quiapo Church as part of preparations for the Traslacion 2026.
According to a report on dzRH's Dos Por Dos by Boy Gonzales, all vendors operating around the church were cleared on Tuesday night, January 6, to ensure order, public safety, and the smooth flow of devotees expected to participate in the annual religious event.
Manila Hawker Director Raffy Alejandro said the clearing operation targeted vendors occupying sidewalks and areas along major routes that will be used by devotees during the Traslacion. These include Villalobos Street, Carriedo, Evangelista Street, and other nearby locations expected to experience heavy foot traffic before and on the feast day of the Black Nazarene.
According to Alejandro, the temporary removal of vendors is intended to prevent congestion and allow emergency responders and security personnel to move freely during the procession.
He emphasized that the policy is only temporary and that vendors will be allowed to return once the Traslacion activities have concluded.
Personnel from the Manila Police District and the Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau have been placed on standby to provide security, manage traffic, and offer immediate assistance to devotees throughout the event.
The Manila city government continues to appeal to the public for cooperation and compliance with the guidelines being enforced to ensure a safe, orderly, and peaceful conduct of Traslacion 2026.
