The Manila local government unit (LGU) conducted an intensified defogging and flushing operation in the Sampaloc district as a preemptive measure against the rising number of dengue cases in the area.
The operations, led by the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) in coordination with local barangay officials and tanods, specifically targeted Barangay 656 and Barangay 476.
During the activity, teams treated various areas known as potential breeding grounds for mosquitoes, including drainage systems and sewers, as well as street corners, alleyways, and residential gardens
According to the Manila LGU, the primary goal of the operation is to halt the reproduction of mosquitoes across different barangays to ensure the health and safety of city residents.
Surge in Dengue Cases
The intervention comes after the Manila Health Department reported a notable increase in dengue infections within Barangay 476. Health authorities confirmed that they are currently monitoring residents who have contracted the virus to prevent further complications or fatalities.
In light of the rising cases, the city government is urging the public to take proactive steps in their own homes. Residents are advised to maintain cleanliness in their immediate surroundings and eliminate stagnant water where mosquitoes lay eggs.
The officials also urged their residents to seek immediate medical attention at local health centers if symptoms occur, particularly high or recurring fever.
