

A total of 956 metric tons of garbage were collected across Manila as of 8:00 a.m. on New Year, January 1, according to Department of Public Services (DPS) Director Kenneth Amurao.
According to a report by RH Boy Gonzales on Thursday, Amurao said that the Leonel team led the cleanup operations, collecting 141 truckloads equivalent to 887 metric tons of waste. Meanwhile, the DPS team gathered 19 truckloads or 69 metric tons.
In total, 160 truckloads of garbage had been hauled from various parts of the city by early morning, following New Year celebrations.
Amurao assured the public that hauling and mopping-up operations are ongoing, as sanitation teams continue clearing remaining waste.
He added that the total volume of garbage for the day is expected to increase based on the number of trucks currently deployed throughout the city.
On the night of December 31, the DPS Quick Response Team (QRT) had conducted sweeping operations along Recto Avenue in Divisoria, following reports from netizens regarding scattered garbage in several areas of Divisoria.
