The Philippines secured two silver medals in taekwondo at the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, with Tachiana Keizha Mangin and Olympian Kurt Bryan Barbosa delivering podium finishes for the country.

Mangin, 18, captures the silver medal in the women’s -49kg division in her Asian Games debut. She falls to China’s Jingyue Ma, 0-2, in the final match.

The Philippine Sports Commission congratulated Mangin for her performance, describing it as a “smashing silver Asian Games debut” and thanked the young taekwondo jin for her efforts in representing the Philippines.

Meanwhile, Barbosa also settles for silver in the men’s -58kg event after losing to Kazakhstan’s Tamirlan Tleules in the final.

The Olympian records a 14-16, 2-15 result against Tleules to secure the Philippines’ second silver medal in taekwondo.

“Maraming salamat sa laban, Kurt! Salamat sa pagbandera ng angking galing ng atletang Pilipino!” the Philippine Sports Commission says in recognizing Barbosa’s performance.

The two silver-medal finishes add to the Philippines’ medal haul at the ongoing Asian Games, with both Filipino jins reaching the finals of their respective divisions.
