A 30-year-old man was arrested in Sta. Ana, Manila, after he was allegedly caught secretly recording a woman who had just taken a bath inside her home.
The suspect, identified by police as alias “Mando,” a resident of Barangay 773, Zone 84 in Sta. Ana now faces charges for violating the Anti-Photo and Video Voyeurism Act of 2009, or Republic Act No. 9995.
According to a report from the Manila Police District (MPD)—Sta. Ana Police Station (PS-6), the incident occurred around 10:40 p.m. on March 5, inside the home of the 30-year-old female victim in Barangay 772.
The victim told authorities that she had just finished bathing and was about to get dressed when she noticed a cellphone placed on the ceiling of their house. She immediately screamed after discovering the device and said she heard someone jump down shortly after.
Moments later, she reportedly saw the suspect enter through the door. The victim then alerted her father, asking him to stop the suspect and seize his cellphone.
Both the victim and the suspect later went to the barangay hall to report the incident. Police said the suspect voluntarily handed over his cellphone for inspection.
Upon examining the device, authorities found a video in the “recently deleted” folder showing footage of the victim while she was dressing.
Authorities said a complaint for violation of the Anti-Photo and Video Voyeurism Act is now being prepared against the suspect and will be filed before the Manila Prosecutor’s Office.
