A man was arrested in Manila on Tuesday afternoon after being caught vandalizing an LRT post near the intersection of Recto Avenue and Legarda Street in Sampaloc, shortly after a protest marking National Peasant’s Day.

In a report by Boy Gonzales, the Manila Police District (MPD) identified the suspect as Georel Albaña, 28, single, and a resident of Barangay Burgos, Montalban, Rizal.

According to a report from the General Assignment and Investigation Section–District Investigation and Detective Management Division (GAI-CIS-DIDMD), at around 12:50 p.m., police officers PSSg Jessie James Butawan and PCpl Richard Ron De Guzman spotted Albaña spray-painting a concrete LRT post in the area where around 1,500 individuals had just gathered for a rally.

Authorities said one of the officers warned Albaña to stop vandalizing, citing that it was against the law, but he ignored the warning and continued painting. This prompted the police to arrest him on the spot.

The suspect is now detained and faces multiple charges, including Disobedience to an Agent of a Person in Authority (Article 151), Tumults and Other Disturbances of Public Order (Article 153), Malicious Mischief (Article 327), and violation of Batas Pambansa 880 or The Public Assembly Act of 1985.

According to the MPD, Albaña remains in police custody pending inquest proceedings before the City Prosecutor’s Office.
