A man was arrested after attacking his own mother with a bolo knife in Laoang, Northern Samar, on Friday morning, October 17.
According to the investigation of Laoang Municipal Police Station (MPS), the 58-year-old victim noticed that his 35-year-old son had been restless and had not slept since the previous night. When she asked what was wrong, the report indicated that the suspect allegedly grabbed a large bladed weapon, known locally as a "sundang," and struck his mother, hitting her on the left ear.
The suspect allegedly claimed that the victim had poisoned him.
The victim managed to avoid the suspect’s follow-up attack and was able to call for help from neighbors. With the assistance from barangay officials, the suspect was quickly subdued and restrained, preventing further harm to the victim.
Responding officers from the station, led by Police Captain Nimrod Holares, quickly arrived at the scene, leading to the arrest of the suspect. The weapon used in the attack was also recovered from his possession.
The victim was promptly transported to Catubig Hospital for immediate medical treatment.
Meanwhile, the suspect was taken into police custody and brought to the Laoang Municipal Police Station, where he now faces charges of frustrated parricide.
