Malacañang has suspended classes at all levels and work in government offices in the National Capital Region (NCR) and 22 provinces on August 6 as heavy rains brought by Tropical Storm Maymay and the southwest monsoon continue to affect several parts of the country.

The suspension was ordered through Memorandum Circular No. 122 upon the recommendation of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

The affected areas include the NCR and the provinces of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Abra, Apayao, Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Nueva Vizcaya, Zambales, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Bataan, Pampanga, Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite, Batangas, Laguna, and Occidental Mindoro.

According to the Office of the President, the order was issued as a precautionary measure to ensure public safety amid continuous rainfall and the threat of flooding and other weather-related hazards.

Government agencies tasked with delivering essential services, including healthcare, disaster response, emergency preparedness, and other vital operations, will remain operational despite the suspension.

The memorandum also stated that local government units in areas not covered by the order may implement localized suspensions of classes and work, subject to existing laws and regulations.

Meanwhile, the suspension of work in private companies and offices will be left to the discretion of their respective management.

The memorandum, signed by Acting Executive Secretary Ralph G. Recto on behalf of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., took effect immediately.
