Malacañang has declared Wednesday, June 24, 2026, a special non-working day in the City of Manila to allow residents to take part in celebrations marking the capital’s 455th founding anniversary.
Under Proclamation No. 1320, signed on June 16 by Executive Secretary Ralph Recto by authority of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., the suspension of work applies only within the City of Manila.
“It is but fitting and proper that the people of the City of Manila be given full opportunity to participate in the occasion and enjoy the celebration,” the proclamation stated.
The declaration is expected to allow residents and local government offices to join anniversary activities, with work suspended in most public and private institutions across the city.
Manila Mayor Isko Moreno is scheduled to deliver his State of the City Address (SOCA) on the same day as part of the festivities.
The City of Manila traces its founding to June 24, 1571, when Spanish conquistador Miguel López de Legazpi formally established the settlement under Spanish colonial rule.
