The Makabayan bloc announced plans to file another impeachment complaint against President Bongbong Marcos, citing alleged systematic plunder and the unexplained increase of unprogrammed funds allegedly used for flood control projects.
The complaint also reportedly includes accusations of kickbacks in infrastructure projects under the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
No specific date has been provided for the filing.
Atty. Andre’ de Jesus, the first complainant in a previous impeachment case against Marcos, acknowledged that many will oppose the complaint and predict its dismissal. He emphasized that holding those involved in alleged corruption accountable requires courage to challenge those in power, even the President.
Meanwhile, House Senior Deputy Minority Leader Edgar Erice expressed skepticism about the new complaint, predicting it will likely be dismissed due to lack of form and substance. Erice also questioned de Jesus’ role as complainant, noting that he is the lawyer of First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos in a separate disbarment case.
The Makabayan bloc has yet to provide further details on the upcoming impeachment filing.
