

A magnitude 7.5 earthquake jolted Manay, Davao Oriental, on Friday, October 10, at 9:43 AM, according to PHIVOLCS.
Based on PHIVOLCS earthquake information, the earthquake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of focus of 20 km.
In an interview at DZRH Damdaming Bayan, PHIVOLCS Director Dr. Teresito Bacolcol said they are expecting damage and aftershocks from the earthquake. According to him, the shaking lasted about 25 seconds.
The PHIVOLCS initially reported a magnitude 7.6 earthquake, but eventually lowered it to 7.5.

As a result of the quake, the agency also issued a tsunami warning in Offshore Davao Oriental.
“It is forecasted that the first tsunami waves will arrive between 9:43 AM to 11:43 AM on Friday, October 10.
People in the following areas are strongly advised by PHIVOLCS to evacuate immediately to higher grounds or move farther inland:
- Eastern Samar
- Dinagat Islands
- Davao Oriental
- Southern Leyte
- Surigao Del Norte
- Leyte
- Surigao Del Sur
Owners of boats in the said areas are advised to secure their boats and move away from the waterfront.
