The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) downgraded the magnitude of the earthquake that struck off Sarangani, Davao Occidental, to 6.4 on Wednesday afternoon, August 5.

The quake was initially recorded at magnitude 7.0.

Phivolcs said the tectonic earthquake occurred at 12:13 p.m. with its epicenter located about 258 kilometers southeast of Sarangani. It had a depth of 10 kilometers.

Phivolcs said no damage, however, aftershocks are expected.

In a separate advisory, the agency also said the earthquake did not generate a tsunami threat to the Philippines.
