A magnitude 6.4 earthquake struck Balut Island in the Municipality of Sarangani, Davao Occidental at 4:07 PM on Thursday, October 8.
It had a depth of 010 km and is tectonic in origin.
Meanwhile, PHIVOLCS reported the following instrumental intensities:
- Intensity IV - Alabel, Malapatan, SARANGANI; TBoli, Lake Sebu, SOUTH COTABATO; CITY OF GENERAL SANTOS; Palimbang, SULTAN KUDARAT
- Intensity III - City of Kidapawan, COTABATO; City of Digos, Matanao, DAVAO DEL SUR; Sarangani, Jose Abad Santos, Sta. Maria, DAVAO OCCIDENTAL; Maitum, SARANGANI; Banga, SOUTH COTABATO; Lebak, SULTAN KUDARAT
- Intensity II - Carmen, Mlang, President Roxas, COTABATO; CITY OF DAVAO; Magsaysay, DAVAO DEL SUR; Maasim, SARANGANI; Santo Nino, Surallah, Norala, SOUTH COTABATO; President Quirino, Esperanza, Kalamansig, Isulan, SULTAN KUDARAT
- Intensity I - Kalilangan, BUKIDNON; Banisilan, Magpet, Pikit, COTABATO; Nabunturan, DAVAO DE ORO; Tantangan, SOUTH COTABATO
No damage is expected from the quake, but the agency warned of possible aftershocks.
Moreover, PHIVOLCS said the quake was an aftershock of the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck Sarangani and the magnitude 6.5 earthquake that struck Davao Occidental in June this year.
