A magnitude 5.9 earthquake struck Sarangani, Davao Occidental early Friday, August 14, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).
The tectonic earthquake occurred at 2:39 a.m., with its epicenter located 83 kilometers southeast of Sarangani, Davao Occidental.
It had a depth of 10 kilometers.
The following instrumental intensities were reported:
Intensity III
- Kiamba, Sarangani
- Palimbang, Sultan Kudarat
The agency said the earthquake was an aftershock of the strong earthquakes recorded offshore Sarangani and offshore Davao Occidental in June, including the magnitude 7.8 and magnitude 6.5 quakes.
PHIVOLCS reported no damage from the latest earthquake.
No significant aftershocks were expected, according to the agency.
