

A magnitude 5.8 earthquake struck offshore near Davao Occidental early Sunday, February 15, 2026, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
Phivolcs said the tremor occurred at 1:22 a.m., with its epicenter located about 231 kilometers south-southeast of Jose Abad Santos.
The earthquake was tectonic in origin and had a shallow depth of 10 kilometers beneath the seabed.
While no damage is expected from the quake, Phivolcs warned that aftershocks may still occur. Residents in nearby areas were advised to remain alert and observe standard earthquake safety measures.
The latest tremor adds to a series of recent seismic activities recorded in and around Davao Occidental and Davao Oriental, which are located along active tectonic zones in the southern Philippines.
