UPDATED: A magnitude 5.4 earthquake struck Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro, at 10:38 a.m. on Friday, August 7, according to the latest bulletin issued by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).
PHIVOLCS said the quake's epicenter was located about 13 kilometers south 57 degrees west of Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro, at a depth of 14 kilometers.
The state seismology agency initially reported the earthquake as having a magnitude of 5.8 before revising the figure to 5.4 in a subsequent advisory.
The agency recorded the following reported intensities:
- Intensity V – Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro; Calapan City, Naujan, Puerto Galera, San Teodoro, and Victoria in Oriental Mindoro
- Intensity IV – Taal, Batangas; Abra de Ilog and Sablayan in Occidental Mindoro
- Intensity III – Quezon City; Batangas City; General Trias City, Cavite; and San Pedro City, Laguna
- Intensity II – Parañaque City; Santa Cruz, Laguna; and Guinayangan, Quezon
Meanwhile, the following instrumental intensities were recorded:
- Intensity V – Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro, and Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro
- Intensity IV – Abra de Ilog, Looc, and Sablayan in Occidental Mindoro
- Intensity III – Quezon City; Batangas City; Calapan City; and Victoria, Oriental Mindoro
- Intensity II – Several areas in Batangas, Quezon, and Romblon
- Intensity I – Portions of Metro Manila, Bataan, Bulacan, Batangas, Cavite, Laguna, Quezon, Occidental Mindoro, and Oriental Mindoro
As of posting time, authorities had not reported any casualties or significant damage resulting from the earthquake.
PHIVOLCS advised the public to remain vigilant, as aftershocks are expected following the tremor.
