A magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck the town of Kalamansig in Sultan Kudarat early Wednesday, January 28, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported.
The tectonic quake occurred at 1:05 a.m., 55 kilometers south of Kalamansig, with a depth of 19 kilometers.
Instrumental intensities were recorded in the following areas:
- Intensity IV - Lebak, and Palimbang, Sultan Kudarat
- Intensity III - Norala, South Cotabato; Esperanza, Sultan Kudarat
- Intensity II - M'lang and Pikit, Cotabato; Maitum, Malungon, Sarangani;
- Tantangan, City of Koronadal, Banga, Tupi, Surallah, Tampakan, and Santo Nino,
- South Cotabato; Isulan, Columbio, and Bagumbayan, Sultan Kudarat
- Intensity I - Kadingilan, Bukidnon; Maasim, Alabel, Sarangani; City of Zamboanga
PHIVOLCS warned that aftershocks are expected following the quake.
